Wheelchair Rugby Improves Thoracoabdominal Mobility in People with Tetraplegia after One Year of Training
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study investigated the effects of one year of regular wheelchair rugby training on thoracoabdominal mobility of subjects with tetraplegia. Seven male subjects, tetraplegic level C5-C7 were analyzed before and after a year of training in wheelchair rugby the three-dimensional kinematic analysis of thoracoabdominal mobility of four regions: superior thorax (ST), inferior thorax (IT),superior abdomen (SA) and inferior abdomen (IA). Kinematic analysis showed a significant increase of 31.4% (p = 0.004) in the thoracoabdominal mobility of the superior thorax, after the training period, and there were no significant differences in other compartments analyzed. Therefore, the one year training of wheelchair rugby had a positive impact on mobility of the superior torax in individuals with tetraplegia, and allows the identification of ST as thoracoabdominal region that contributed most to the increase in lung volume in population.

The effects of quad rugby training on physical capacity and physical strain during standardized activities of daily living were investigated in 9 trained (A) and 5 untrained quad rugby players (B), and 7 inactive persons with tetraplegia (C) at 0, 3 and 6 months after the start of a quad rugby training program (1.5h.wk[-1]). Physical capacity was measured as maximal isometric strength, peak pow...

The current study assessed the validity and reliability of a miniaturised data logger (MDL) against a radio-frequency-based indoor tracking system (ITS) for quantifying key aspects of mobility performance during wheelchair rugby. Eleven international wheelchair rugby players were monitored by both devices during four wheelchair rugby matches. MDL data were averaged over both 1-second (MDL-1) an...
متن کاملEffects of Upper Limb Exercises on Physical Capacity and Heart Function in Quadriplegics
Objectives: Wheelchairs are the prime mobility aid of persons with spinal cord injuries. Manual wheelchair propulsion puts a lot of demand on the cardiopulmonary as well as the skeletal system. The main purpose of the study was to compare the effects of both arm ergometry training and progressive resistance exercise training of upper limbs on resting heart rate and distance covered during wheel...
